Threadgill’s postpones auction of music memorabilia

UPDATE: An auction of Eddie Wilson’s music memorabilia and more scheduled for Saturday at Threadgill’s has been postponed “for the health and safety of customers and employees, and due to Governor Abbott’s health mandate,” a press release about the event said.

A new auction date has not been set.

EARLIER: Facing an uncertain future amid the coronavirus pandemic, Threadgill’s owner Eddie Wilson decided to permanently shutter his historic restaurant on North Lamar Boulevard in April.

On Saturday, Wilson’s extensive collection of Austin music memorabilia and more will go to auction in a live event at the restaurant that kicks off at 10 a.m.

Items up for bid include original Janis Joplin photographs, Kenneth Threadgill’s platinum “Honeysuckle Rose” album that he was presented for his work with Willie Nelson, a collection of vintage Texas beer signs, and Armadillo World Headquarters and Vulcan Gas Co. concert posters by the Armadillo Art Squad.

On Monday, auctioneer Robb Burley said his entire crew would be tested for COVID-19 on Thursday prior to the sale. All attendees and employees will be required to wear masks, temperatures will be taken at the door with a no-touch laser thermometer and hand sanitizer stations will be available throughout the restaurant.

“We encourage social distancing, but it is a small space,” Burley said.

There will be limited seating that must be reserved in advance.
