SEEMS LIKE OLD TIMES

[7/6/08] Vallejo and Soulhat will perform Friday July 18 at 9 p.m. at Antone's (213 W. Fifth St, Austin - 512/ 320-8424). There is an opening act and this is a double-billing with the first headliners expected to take the stage by 10.

[6/5/08] The Austin American Statesman reports that artists continue to be added to Johnny Fest at Threadgill's on June 8. Today they report 'Don't forget about the big Steamboat Reunion show at Threadgill's this Sunday, beginning at 3 p.m. Featuring such reunited acts as Soulhat, Steamroller, Pushmonkey and most of Bob Schneider's Joe Rockhead, the marathon o' rock is a benefit for former KLBJ-FM DJ Johnny Walker, who is recovering from a stroke. "Johnny was such a big part of the Austin rock n' roll scene," says former Steamboat owner Danny Crooks, who put together the show. "The weekend officially started every Friday at 5 o'clock when Johnny played 'Bonecrusher' (by Soulhat) on the radio." After his nightly show ended, Walker would often turn up at Steamboat and introduce the bands- big and small- from the stage. Ah, the days when the scene was really a scene. The great guitarist Billy White (ex-Dokken) will bring a whole new bag of guitar tricks to the show. Currently living in Mexico and performing under the name Guillermo, White has been mastering the Spanish flamenco guitar in recent years'

[4/15/08] The Austin American Statesman is reporting there will be a Steamboat Reunion in June to raise money for longtime-friend Johnny Walker, who recently suffered a stroke. Michael Corcoran says "After hearing that former KLBJ-FM radio host Johnny Walker, beloved among the hard rock crowd, had suffered a stroke, former Steamboat owner Danny Crooks started making some phone calls. 'Wanna play a benefit for Johnny?' The answer was, generally, 'just tell us when and where.'

The show will be at Threadgill's on June 8, with such Steamboat alums as Soulhat, Steamroller, Pushmonkey and Breedlove pledging their support. There's also talk of Sister 7 reuniting and Bob Schneider might even get back with Joe Rockhead. This is all early talk and things could change, but it looks to be one heckuva blowout. For a guy who supported all those bands when they were starting out."

Could this be the resurrection of Little Joe Soul (if only for a night)? Time will tell.

[8/30/07] This week marks the two year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, and filmmaker Robert Greenwald reminds us that "still there are tens of thousands of families without homes. 30,000 families are scattered across the country in FEMA apartments, 13,000 are in trailers, and hardly any of the 77,000 rental units destroyed in New Orleans have been rebuilt. Watch his new video.

But "there is something very specific we can all do to help. Sign the petition urging the Senate to pass the Gulf Coast Recovery Bill of 2007 (S1668). The bill is expected to come to a vote after Labor Day. Its passage will be an important step toward rebuilding the infrastructure in the Gulf Coast region."

[6/9/07] Soulhat will perform at this year's Keep Austin Weird Fest, a 5K and festival sponsored by RunTex, on June 16. The event features the 5K (of course...) plus live music, food, local businesses, tents and contests, and will last all day Saturday. Doors open at Republic Square Park at 11 a.m. and close at 10 p.m.

Music performances are scheduled to include the aforementioned Soulhat as well as Bob Schneider, Alejandro Escovedo, South Austin Jug Band, Patricia Vonne, The Steps and Amy Cook. Food vendors include the Austin Farmer's Food Market, Lambert's, Amy's Ice Cream, Salt Lick BBQ and Austin's Pizza, as well as the best local businesses featured in the Austin Chronicle's "Best of Biz-aar"!

[6/2/07] Kevin McKinney will join Bob Dylan, Bjork, The White Stripes, Wilco and dozens of other artists as part of this year's lineup at the Austin City Limits Music Festival, Sept 14-16. Kevin will be promoting a new solo record, which should be released by the time of the festival. Three day wristbands are now sold-out but one-day passes go on sale June 19.
