12 beloved Austin haunts that didn’t survive…

As the first decade of the new millennium draws to a close, The Onion’s A.V. Club pens an article on “12 beloved Austin haunts that didn’t survive the decade“. Not surprisingly, The Black Cat tops the list. But Steamboat 1874 also gets a mention. Its funny to think how much Austin music has changed over the last ten years…and how much Austin music suffers for losing cool live music venues like these (which are almost always replaced by shot bars or something equally as nauseating). That’s not to say, of course, that there aren’t a lot of great new live music clubs that have sprung up over time. Only that each one we lose is something of a tragedy for live music and the city that claims we are the capital of it.
